Injury/Disability
Retirement
If your disability appears to be permanent and you will be unable to perform the usual duties of your current position, you may be eligible for disability retirement. CalPERS can expedite emergency retirement for those facing a terminal illness. If this is your case, contact us or your employer immediately for special assistance. Learn more about disability and industrial disability retirement on Service & Disability Retirement.
Health Benefits Coverage
If you are currently a member of the CalPERS Health Program, you must meet specific requirements to continue your health insurance coverage into retirement or to maintain the right to re-enroll in the future after retirement.
In the event that you become disabled, your coverage may lapse during the processing of your disability retirement application. To avoid any disruption to your health coverage, contact your employer for a Direct Payment Authorization (PDF) form to pay your premium directly to the insurance carrier(s). If you do not elect to direct pay, you must cancel your CalPERS health coverage. You may need to re-enroll in a CalPERS health plan once your disability retirement is approved.
Long-Term Care
If your disability requires you to have long-term care services, contact CalPERS Long-Term Care at (800) 982-1775 to initiate a claim.

Group Legal Services Insurance Plan Page Content Main
The Group Legal Services Insurance Plan (Plan) is an important part of the state’s benefits package because it can help employees get sound advice and representation to quickly resolve their legal problems. Chances are, at one time or another, you may need an attorney. However, legal problems can be very confusing and costly. When they come unexpectedly, they can present a huge financial burden, not to mention the time you spend searching for just the right lawyer. Good California attorneys can cost $353 or more per hour. As a member of the State’s legal plan, you can face your problems with the confidence that solid legal coverage provides.
Enrollment
You have 60 days from your effective date of eligibility/hire to enroll in the Plan or you may enroll during open enrollment.
